PAL Meeting August 11, 2021 Attachment #1 Police Athletic League  This summer the Dover Police Athletic League (PAL) continued to provide educational and recreational activities for the youth of our city. PAL has successfully graduated two separate classes for the Dover Youth Police Academy, completed successful programs at three schools throughout the summer and completed its first ever childhood cancer 5k.  The Dover Police Youth Academy consisted of two separate classes that were one week each. During the week long academy, all youth recruits completed assignments and ventured on several educational field trips. On the last day of each youth academy, parents were invited to attend their child’s graduation which was held here at the Dover Police Department.  The Dover PAL successfully completed 3 separate summer programs at 3 different schools. The schools were East Dover Elementary, William Henry Middle School and Central Middle School. Each school consisted of approximately 10 to 30 students each day with an average program week running from Monday to Thursday. The Dover PAL ensured that all students were actively engaged during educational and recreational activities.  After announcing that The Dover PAL would conduct a 5k walk and run in 2019, that mission was completed this past weekend on August 7, 2021. The Inaugural “Outrunning Childhood Cancer” 5k run and 1-mile walk took place and had approximately 150 participants, with well over 100 additional supporters. We established the partnership with the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware and decided that any proceeds earned from the event would be split between The Dover PAL and the Ronald McDonald House. All fees and earning are still being calculated by the race company and the overall earning sheet will be provided in approximately one week.  Upcoming PAL event will be a reunion fun day with both of the Dover Police Youth Academy classes that graduated earlier this summer. The location will be at Schutte park and will include a kickball game and lunch.
